Activate Your Perfect Pout

When you hear about Babe Lash, you probably think about our Essential Serum, which is understandable, considering its amazing results. What you may not know is that Babe Lash has a wide variety of cosmetics, including ones that aren’t for your lashes! One of our fan-favorite products is our Plumping Lip Jelly, and we want to give you the full, inside scoop on what makes our lip plumper a must-have for Babe Lash’s “hot babe summer” this year. This summer, we’re celebrating what it means to be a babe and encouraging authenticity and originality for all, and we can’t wait to tell you more about it (but more on that later).

Quick History

A Quick Lip History

For nearly the past hundred years, having a puffy, “kissable” pout has remained a much-loved mark of beauty, which, considering how quickly beauty ideals shift, is pretty remarkable. Can you think of any other beauty trends that have lasted so long? (We can’t!)

Starting with flappers in the 1920s, women began drawing a delicate cupid’s bow on their lips. By the 1950s, pin-up stars like Marilyn Monroe were sporting bright red pouts, and the women of America followed suit, with overlined lips being an on-trend representation of femininity.

By the early 2000s, it was becoming more and more popular for celebrities to seek physical augmentation through cosmetic surgery, and again, viewers followed suit. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported a 60% increase in lip augmentation procedures between 2000 to 2017. Still to this day, lip augmentation and dermal fillers remain widely popular.

In 2005, the first at-home lip plumper hit the market. Lip Venom by DuWop Cosmetics reached tremendous levels of popularity, as it gave individuals who wanted to augment their pout a way of temporarily doing so without needles or a high price point. Since then, cosmetic brands everywhere have created their own variants of lip plumping products, increasing accessibility even further. Now, there’s a new wave of lip plumpers hitting the market, sporting new formulations.

How Lip Plumpers Work

In essence, lip plumpers are a fast, easy way to make your lips look more full and supple, without needing injections, cosmetic surgery, or an intensive makeup contouring routine. Lip plumpers traditionally have been in a lip gloss style, where all you have to do is swipe the product onto your lips, and within minutes, your lips look plumper - hence the name “lip plumper”.

Traditionally, lip plumpers have used mild irritants to plump the lips for a bee-stung effect. Typically, the irritants included some kind of capsaicin (found in peppers), cinnamon, or mild bee venom. These plumpers gave a quick plumping effect, but occasionally caused more severe irritation or discomfort in some users. Plus, these products were inaccessible to users with bee allergies or sensitivities to the irritating ingredients. Luckily, for the most part, these kinds of lip plumpers aren’t in common usage anymore.

Today, most cosmetic brands (including Babe Lash) have ditched the old ways and use new hydrating formulas to gently add fullness to the pout without irritation. These new varieties use ingredients hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate to lock in moisture on the lips, giving the appearance of fullness. No pain required.

How Our Lip Plumper Works

The Babe Lash Plumping Lip Jelly is our signature lip plumper. It glides onto your skin like a lip gloss, and within a few minutes, makes your lips appear fuller. With gentle, nourishing ingredients, it benefits your lips while you’re wearing the product and even after the gloss has worn off (yes, you read that right - even after it has worn off). It’s an easy, stress-free, and affordable way to elevate your look in seconds. And with three shades, you can choose whichever one suits your personal style. Choose from Red Glass, Sheer Mauve, and Clear. (Pro Tip: you can wear the clear lip plumper over your favorite shade of lipstick to make your favorite lip color more plumping!)

So, what makes this product different from other lip plumpers on the market?

At Babe Lash, we’re all about performance-based cosmetics (and we hope you are, too). One of the big differentiators between Babe Lash and most drugstore cosmetics lies in our high-quality ingredients that are geared toward long-term performance.

Some of the power-players in our Plumping Lip Jelly include:

  • Vanillyl Butyl Ether (VBE)
  • Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1
  • Tocopheryl Acetate

Vanillyl Butyl Ether (VBE)

Vanillyl Butyl Ether, more commonly known as VBE, is an ingredient commonly used in cosmetics, especially lip glosses. VBE is an ingredient that provides a mild warming/tingling sensation. This ingredient has made its way into new lip plumpers as a nod to the traditional lip plumpers that caused a stinging sensation. Now, there’s no irritation or discomfort. Most people who have used VBE in our lip plumper have described the sensation as warm or tingling, and most say it feels super pleasant on the lips.

Sodium Hyaluronate

If you’ve been watching the skincare influencers lately, you’ve probably heard all about hyaluronic acid. Sodium hyaluronate is like hyaluronic acid’s cool younger sister. Even though you may not have heard of sodium hyaluronate, you’ve probably used it without knowing it!

Hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate function in much the same way. Both ingredients are humectants that pull moisture from the environment into your skin, helping to regulate your skin’s moisture. It helps keep you moisturized longer, and is especially useful for those who are prone to flaky skin.

In the cosmetic world, people use the names of these ingredients interchangeably. The primary difference between these two moisture powerhouses is that sodium hyaluronate is the water-soluble salt that is derived from hyaluronic acid. Molecularly, it is smaller than hyaluronic acid and long-lasting in formulation, allowing the hydrating ingredient to deeply penetrate the skin and lock in moisture in cosmetics.

It is a fan-favorite anti-aging ingredient that is plumping, gives a dewy finish, and generally has no known side effects. It’s the skinimalist’s best friend.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 is a member of the peptide family (y’all know we love peptides). Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 is becoming a popular anti-aging ingredient, with some comparing it to the functionality of retinol, as it increases oil solubility and skin penetration, smoothing the skin’s veneer.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Tocopheryl acetate, also called vitamin E acetate, is a compound of fat-soluble antioxidants that reduce inflammation and function as anti-wrinkle and skin conditioning agents. With antioxidants being so crucial in protecting your body from free radicals, it’s nice to have added care on the sensitive skin of your lips.

How to Use Plumping Lip Jelly

Using Babe Lash’s Plumping Lip Jelly is easy. Dip the wand into the lip plumper and swipe it onto your lips. You will feel a slight, warm tingle on your lips for 5-10 minutes. During this period, your lips may appear redder or more pigmented as a result of the plumping effect - don’t worry - it goes away! After a few minutes, you’ll notice that your lips appear more full and voluptuous.

It looks and feels great on the skin, plus it’s super hydrating on your lips (thanks, sodium hyaluronate!). You get a beautiful result that benefits your lips now and later. After a while, the plumped look will diminish. Refresh your look by reapplying the lip plumper. It can be reapplied multiple times per day without issue!

A few things to remember:

  1. Lip plumpers are temporary: If you want long-term results that are larger and more defined, a filler or cosmetic procedure is going to be your best bet. If that’s something you’re interested in, schedule a consultation with a professional.
  2. Just because it’s fashionable, doesn’t mean it’s mandatory: You don’t have to have large lips to be fashionable or beautiful. We think that lips of all sizes and shapes are amazing in their own right.
  3. Style is personal: Whether your style is full-glam or more natural, you’re not wrong. If you want to use a lip plumper, that’s cool. If you want a cosmetic procedure, that’s also cool. If you want to rock fine, natural lips, good for you! Define your own beauty and express yourself in your own way.

No matter what your style is, we hope you’ll join us in “Hot Babe Summer,” where we all get to define what it means to be a babe in our own individual ways. You all are amazing and wonderful. You’re capable of doing difficult things. We can’t wait to see what you do for “Hot Babe Summer”!
